GENyO will once again take part this Friday, 25 September, in the European Researchers’ Night 2026 with a programme of outreach activities aimed at schools and the general public. This year, more than 30 researchers, technical and management staff, Master’s and Bachelor’s degree students, and work placement students will be involved in the various activities organised by the centre.
The Centre for Genomics and Cancer Research (GENyO) will once again take part this Friday, 25 September, in the European Researchers’ Night 2026, which will be held on the Paseo del Salón in Granada.
Once again, GENyO is taking part in this event promoting science communication with a programme aimed at both students and the general public, with the aim of presenting some of the research being carried out at the centre in a simple and engaging way.
The main new feature of this year’s event is a morning activity organised in collaboration with Year 2 ESO pupils from various schools, for whom a workshop with a particularly educational focus has been prepared. Entitled ‘Visualising chromosomes using optical microscopy’, the students will be able to observe chromosomes in onion root cells under a microscope, gaining a hands-on understanding of basic concepts in genetics and cell biology. The activity will take place in the GENyO marquee from 10.00 to 12.45.
In the afternoon, from 5.30 pm to 9.15 pm, the Kids Corner | GENyO 4 Kids area will offer a range of educational activities aimed specifically at children and families, such as extracting DNA from spinach using household items, a science-themed game of ‘Pasapalabra’, a game on dominant and recessive traits, and viewing samples under a microscope.
The programme will be rounded off with talks for all audiences, bringing together researchers from the centre for a series of short, accessible talks on cancer, PhD studies and international research, ketosis, nanoparticles, the genetics of axial spondyloarthritis, leukaemia and CAR-T therapies. The talks will take place between 6.25 pm and 9.15 pm in the GENyO marquee.
Through its participation in European Researchers’ Night, GENyO is once again committed to bringing biomedical research closer to society and to sparking an interest in science from an early age, by offering activities tailored to audiences of different ages.
