What is GENyO?

GENyO is created as a multidisciplinary research space in which the interaction of different professionals from the health, university and business fields allows the generation of new systems for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases based on the joint and coordinated application of first level knowledge in the different fields of genetics.

This centre is part of the Andalusian Research Programme in Clinical Genetics and Genomic Medicine, one of the three research programmes in Advanced Therapies in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, together with the Research Programme in Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine and the Nanomedicine Programme.

Centre financed by: CUII, CSC, Pfizer y UGR.

About GENyO

Oncology and Genomics Research

Research at the Pfizer-University of Granada-Junta de Andalucía Centre for Genomics and Oncology Research (GENYO) is organised into two main areas: Functional Genomics, which corresponds to the basic area, and Personalised Medicine, focused on clinical applications. These areas are structured into strategic lines. The Functional Genomics area focuses on the study of the human genome and cancer genomics, addressing the fundamental mechanisms of genetic and molecular biology. The area of Personalised Medicine focuses on the detection, diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of diseases, as well as the design and implementation of advanced therapies, with the aim of translating scientific knowledge into personalised solutions for patients. This structure allows GENyO to integrate basic and applied research, driving significant advances in the field of genomics and oncology.

Health Sciences Technology Park

A multidisciplinary technological environment

Located in Granada’s Health Sciences Technological Park (PTS), a technological environment that integrates CSIC research groups and centres, the university and the business sector, the GENyO building will have a surface area of 6,400 m2 in which up to 22 laboratories and common support units will be located, all with a capacity to house up to 200 researchers.

The layout and structure of the laboratories have been designed with the aim of creating open, diaphanous spaces that favour interaction between professionals, thus facilitating ways of working based on complementarity, collaboration and interdisciplinarity.

Objectives

1

As a reference centre for research in genetics and genomics applied to health, to develop and support research in this field throughout the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.

2

As a reference centre for research in genetics and genomics applied to health, to develop and support research in this field throughout the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.

3

Promote the development of clinical research in genetics and genomics aimed at solving citizens’ health problems.

4

Promote alliances with companies, universities and health institutions, as well as participate in scientific networks to apply genetics and genomics in clinical practice at regional, national and international level.
