Canal Sur’s ‘ConCiencia’ interviewed Verónica Ramos Mejía about advances in the field of childhood cancer research and Sara Rodríguez Heras about the importance of microRNAs.

Dr. Ramos studies how childhood cancer is triggered and her group has discovered that this type of tumour is very different from any adult cancer, it is a developmental disease and they want to know how it originates.

The second part of the report looks at Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun, this year’s Nobel laureates in medicine for the discovery of microRNAs, a new class of tiny molecules that play a crucial role in gene regulation.

On this occasion, the journal Nature has made a selection of its most relevant publications in this field, and among them is the one by Dr. Rodríguez Heras’ group at GENyO, who have discovered new functions of one of these molecules.
