Thomas Widmann of the Progress and Health Foundation at the Genyo Centre is working on the understanding of this “rare” condition and the search for therapeutic targets to slow down its progression.
The Genyo research centre in Granada has become an essential focus for research into a “rare disease” called NEDAMSS. This rare pathology, suffered by nine people in Spain and around 150 worldwide, is caused by a mutation in the IRF2BPL gene, and has a rapid and fatal progression that deteriorates the patient’s quality of life. Its study is the focus of the work of Thomas Widmann, a researcher of German origin at the Granada centre of the Progreso y Salud Foundation, an entity dependent on the Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs.
