On 14 March, researchers from the Spanish Network of Advanced Therapies (TERAV/TERAV+) will participate in a new ‘Unistem Day’ competition. A day designed to promote research among high school students from all over Europe with the aim of stimulating their interest in science or, perhaps, to discover a scientific vocation in the context of Advanced Therapies and stem cell research.
The event is a collaboration between research centres and universities from all over Europe and shows students, through lectures, debates, film screenings and other recreational activities, cutting-edge academic research, from basic to clinical research and its translation for the benefit of patients.
Since its first edition in 2009, at the initiative of the University of Bologna, this event has managed to involve universities and institutes from more than 15 countries under the motto ‘United for Science’, representing an opportunity to introduce young people to the field of innovation. This year TERAV+ will be supported by the universities of: Vigo, Navarra, Complutense and Autónoma de Madrid, Santiago De Compostela, Barcelona, Autónoma de Barcelona, Valencia, Valladolid and Granada, as well as other research centres such as Banc De Sang I Teixits (BST) or Instituto de Investigación Biomédica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), among others.
The Pfizer-University of Granada-Junta de Andalucía Centre for Genomics and Oncology Research (GENYO), for its part, will host more than 90 students from two different schools, the Juan XXIII Chana Educational Centre and the Padre Manjón Secondary School in an activity that will take place throughout the morning of 14 March. On this day, there will be video calls with several universities and games of recognition of the use of cells and tissues in biomedicine, in addition, renowned experts such as Verónica Ramos, P. Catalina Carmona, Javier Molina Estévez or Sara Guerrero Aspizúa will share their informative talks with the youngsters.
