The Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada has been awarded the 2025 Best in Class (BiC) Award for the Best Pulmonology Department in Spain, with the participation of GEnyO researchers Concepción Morales García and Francisco Gabriel Ortega, members of the Non-Canonical DNA Structures Biology group led by Dr José Antonio Salcedo.
This award, presented by the Chair of Innovation and Healthcare Management at Rey Juan Carlos University in conjunction with the journal Gaceta Médica, recognises centres that demonstrate sustained excellence in care based on rigorous quality criteria combining objective indicators with patient assessment and perception.
The Pulmonology Department at the hospital in Granada, comprising a team of dozens of professionals, has been recognised for its high diagnostic capabilities, the implementation of advanced therapies, a patient-centred approach to care, and its strong involvement in research and clinical innovation projects, carried out largely by a research team based at our scientific facilities.
At GENyO, we wish to highlight the fundamental role of Dr Concepción Morales, who is part of our centre and heads the award-winning Pulmonology Department. Her leadership, commitment and dedication have been decisive in the team securing this prestigious recognition.
Furthermore, in the words of Dr Morales, “this success would not have been possible without institutional support. We sincerely thank the management and the scientific leadership of GENyO, and Dr José Antonio García Salcedo, who has welcomed us into his group; their shared vision and trust in excellence have reinforced the team’s commitment to quality, research and the humanisation of care”.
At GENyO, we see this as an example of how to combine clinical excellence with scientific generosity, rigour, innovation and, above all, a deep commitment to patients. Concepción Morales’s leadership demonstrates that when there is conviction, collective effort and institutional support, the difference is tangible.
For all these reasons, we extend our sincerest congratulations to the team and renew our commitment to continuing to support and participate in initiatives that promote health, research and a more patient-centred approach in the field of respiratory diseases.
