Area of Pharmacogenómics

Pharmacogenomics means the study of variability in gene expression in response to certain drugs. In Pharmacogenomic studies approaches are carried out which bear in mind the characteristics of genomic sequences (pharmacogenetics), by an integrating vision which would include interactions between genes, for example. The objective of pharmacogenomics is the creation of drugs tailor-made for each patient and adapted to their genetic conditions.

This area has a special interest in a centre which, like GENYO, has a clear applied and translational vocation, since it is one of the pillars of so-called individualized or personalized medicine, which not only supposes adaptation to the patient of the best drugs, achieving a better and faster improvement or cure, but also involves a decrease in morbidity and mortality due to adverse risks, which leads to a better and more efficient management in public and private health systems.
